Portugal shines prominently with its flexible investment options and straightforward residency pathway. Greece and Spain also provide attractive options, combining real estate investment with residency benefits. These programs streamline the process for investors seeking European Citizenship in a couple of years.

Let’s go over them one by one.

Investment Options

The program’s flexibility extends to three investment options that stand out.

Investment Funds

An investment fund is a pooled investment vehicle where multiple investors contribute capital to be managed by a professional fund manager. These funds invest in diverse assets to generate returns for investors while spreading risk across different holdings. This option requires you to invest €500,000.

Entrepreneurial Investment

This involves investing €500,000 in creating at least ten full-time jobs for Portuguese citizens or residents and maintaining these positions for five years. You can choose an industry you are familiar with or passionate about. However, you must develop a comprehensive business plan outlining how the investment will generate the required number of jobs.

Donations To Arts Or Research

If you’re interested in something that requires less investment, donating to research or the arts is one option. This includes maintaining and restoring Portugal’s national cultural heritage, and the investment is €250,000.

However, this is a donation, and you will not be generating money like you would with other investments.

Requirements and Eligibility

To apply for the Visa, you musVisave no criminal record, valid health insurance, provide evidence of a legal source of funds, and spend specific time in Portugal. After choosing your investment option, prepare the necessary documentation, complete the investment, and apply at AIMA

Investment Options

Spain’s Golden Visa is one of the last few Golden Visas that offer real estate investments in Europe. This is a huge competitive advantage compared to other countries that have taken down this option. Let’s go over all the options:

Real Estate Investment

Spain’s Golden Visa program allows investors to obtain residency by purchasing real estate worth at least €500,000. This investment can be in the following categories:

  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Land Properties

The real estate must be free of liens or mortgages up to the investment threshold.

Business Investment

This involves investing in or creating a Spanish company that generates employment, contributes to technological or scientific innovation, or has a significant socio-economic impact. The business must be viable and sustainable and have the potential for long-term growth and stability.

Government Bonds

You can also obtain residency by purchasing government bonds worth at least €2 million. This secure investment supports Spain’s economic stability while providing investors with a low-risk pathway to residency. The bonds must be held for a minimum period to maintain eligibility.

Requirements and Eligibility

You’ll need to choose an investment option, gather the necessary documentation, and apply to the Spanish consulate or relevant immigration office. If approved, you’ll receive a temporary residence permit for two years, renewable for an additional five years as long as the investment is maintained.

Spain Golden Visa Benefits and Path to Citizenship

As one of the best Golden Visas in Europe, it also allows you to include your dependents and spouse in your application. There are no specific minimum stay requirements for the first year. After that, you have to visit Spain every year and stay for a minimum of 7-14 days.

This makes it flexible for those who do not wish to reside in Spain full-time. After five years of maintaining the investment and fulfilling the conditions, you can apply for permanent residency in Spain. And after ten years of continuous residency, you can apply for Spanish Citizenship.

Greece Golden Visa

Greece’s Golden Visa program offers residency to non-EU nationals through investment. By investing in real estate, business, or other approved assets, expats gain residency rights and access to quality healthcare and education. Like the prior two, you also get the ability to travel within the Schengen Area.

Discontinued Golden Visas In Europe

With that, we conclude all the best Golden Visas in Europe that are currently available.

The Cyprus Golden Visa was discontinued in 2020 due to concerns about abuse and exploitation, including potential money laundering risks. And the Ireland Golden Visa ended in 2023 due to criticisms of insufficient oversight and transparency in the investment schemes.
