FAQ

Common questions.

What income counts for the D7?

Stable, recurring passive income: pensions, rental income, dividends, investment returns or royalties. The 2026 guideline is around €920/month for the main applicant, with more required for a spouse and each child.

Can I work in Portugal on a D7?

Yes. While the D7 is built around passive income, holders are generally allowed to work or run an activity in Portugal once resident.

Do I need to live in Portugal full-time?

The D7 has minimum-stay requirements to keep the residency valid. On your call we explain exactly how much time you need to spend in Portugal.

How much money do I need for the D7?

The 2026 guideline is around €920 per month of stable passive income for the main applicant, with more for a spouse and each child, plus savings held in a Portuguese bank account. On your call we work out the exact figures for your household.

Can my family join me on the D7?

Yes. Your spouse or partner, dependent children and dependent parents can be included through family reunification, so you move together on the same application.

Does the D7 lead to permanent residency and citizenship?

Yes. The D7 is a renewable residency route. After the legally required period of residence you can apply for permanent residency and, in time, Portuguese citizenship.

Do I need to speak Portuguese for the D7?

No Portuguese is required for the D7 visa itself. A basic language level (A2) only becomes relevant later, if you choose to apply for citizenship.

How is the D7 different from the Golden Visa?

The D7 is an affordable, income-based route that expects you to actually live in Portugal. The Golden Visa is an investment route (from €500,000) with almost no minimum stay. We help you choose the right fit on your call.
