FAQ

Common questions.

What is the Spanish social security number for?

It identifies you to Spain's social security system — required to be hired, to register as self-employed, and to access public healthcare through your contributions.

Do I need it before starting work?

Yes — your employer needs it to register your contract. We make sure it's ready before your first working day.

Do I need a NIE first?

Yes, the registration requires a NIE. If you don't have one, we obtain it for you — the two run naturally together.

Is this the same as registering as autónomo?

The number is the prerequisite. Registering your self-employed activity is a further step — we can support that too once your number exists.

Does the number expire?

No. It's assigned once and stays with you for life, across employers and periods living outside Spain.
