FAQ

Common questions.

Who can apply for the DNV?

Remote employees (with a company active 1+ year and a 3+ month relationship) and freelancers with no more than ~20% of their activity tied to Spanish clients. A relevant degree or 3+ years' experience helps.

Apply from abroad or in Spain?

Both work. From abroad you get a 1-year visa via the consulate; from inside Spain you can apply through the UGE for a 3-year authorisation, often decided in about 20 days.

How much do I need to earn?

Around 200% of Spain's minimum wage (about €2,442/month in 2026), earned mainly from non-Spanish companies or clients, with more required for dependents.

Can my family join me on the DNV?

Yes. Your spouse or partner and dependent children can be included on the same application, with a higher income requirement for each additional member.

Is there a special tax rate for digital nomads?

Many DNV holders can opt into a special regime taxing Spanish-source employment income at a flat 24% (up to €600,000) for up to five years, instead of the progressive rates. We'll point you to a tax adviser to confirm your case.

Can I work for Spanish clients too?

Your work must be mainly for companies or clients outside Spain. As a freelancer, no more than around 20% of your activity can come from Spanish clients.

Does the DNV lead to permanent residence and citizenship?

Yes. It's a renewable residence route — after five years you can apply for long-term residence, and citizenship after ten (two for Ibero-American nationals).

DNV or Non-Lucrative Visa — which is right for me?

If you work remotely, the Digital Nomad Visa is the fit — the NLV doesn't allow any work, including remote. The NLV suits retirees and those living purely on passive income. We help you choose on your call.
