What is a NIF used for?
Almost everything official in Portugal — opening a bank account, renting or buying property, signing contracts, utilities, and your visa application.
Can I get a NIF without travelling?
Yes. We obtain it remotely on your behalf, including assigning a fiscal representative if you're a non-resident.
How long does it take?

Do I need a NIF to open a bank account?

Do non-residents need a fiscal representative?

Is the NIF the same as a residency or social-security number?
